Late night shopping makes people more spendthrift: study

Ladies, this article might be suitable for you. As time goes by, people are living in fast life, and it affects how they shop too. Online shopping has shifted from a trend to a lifestyle. Most people nowadays prefer online shopping to conventional stores because of the ease of access through their gadget and tempting promotions.

As tempting as it might seem, this promotion is exactly what you have to watch out for. Money and Mental Health Policy Institute stated that through late-night promo emails, online store platforms have been attracting buyers at ungodly even wee hours. The expert called this “vampire economy”.

In 2018, the buyers using Mastercard as payment method rose by 23% compared to 2017. Monitoring their purchases, one of these 15 items were purchased between midnight and 6 am. Once more, ladies, this article might be useful for you since two-thirds of the buyers went to women.

However, the reckless spending attitude seems to be more lethal if the buyer also suffers from a mental disorder, insomniac, or drunk texting behavior.

The institute further explained that 93% of these people spend money when they feel “unwell”, and 40% of the percentage went to late-night shopping which they would regret later, and repeat. They are trapped in the cycle. Should the habit continue, this could drive people into debt without they realize.

The Institute then urge these online shopping platforms to stop sending promotional e-mails at such hours. Some agreed to opt-out the option of late-night shopping or to provide an option to cancel the purchase later in the morning. But some have no comment about the matter.
