Kyoto Nijo Castle is reopened, limited to Kyoto citizens

Nijo Castle, a world heritage site in Kyoto, which has been suspended due to the new coronavirus, has been reopened to the public only on the 18th. Nijo Castle in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City has been closed to the public since the 7th of last month due to the spread of new coronavirus.

Although the emergency declaration to Kyoto Prefecture has not been lifted, it has been resumed from the 18th, limited to Kyoto citizens, since Kyoto partly canceled the request for leave on the 16th.

On the morning of the 18th, before the start of the reception, we were prepared to post a warning to call on wearing a mask and attach a tape to mark the interval when lining up at the ticket office. Kyoto citizens, not seeing any foreign tourists at that castle, because it is open for Kyoto citizens only, because of this action can reduce the virus to spreading. Visitor says “ It’s good this place can open again, all this time quarantine, can make people happy too”.

Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site, is a national treasure only for citizens of Kyoto. At the Ninomaru Palace, we resumed the viewing after taking measures against infection such as limiting the number of people. Kyoto City plans to reopen city parks in the future.
