Kobayashi, Senior Advisor of Mitsubishi Corporation, appointed as Chairman of Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Ken Kobayashi, a former major trading company, will be appointed as the new president of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 1st. Mr. Kobayashi is also expected to become the president of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 17th of this month.

Akio Mimura has served as chairman of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry for three terms and nine years since 2013. At the extraordinary general meeting of members on the 1st, Mr. Ken Kobayashi, senior adviser to Mitsubishi Corporation, will be formally appointed as his successor.

Mr. Kobayashi is 73 years old. He has been involved in the shipbuilding and shipping business for many years at Mitsubishi Corporation, and after serving as president and chairman, he is now an advisor. For the two years until May this year, he served as chairman of the Japan Trade Council, which is made up of major trading companies, etc., and also served as vice chairman of Keidanren and vice chairman of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry in his activities in the business world. Mr. Kobayashi is expected to be appointed as the chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 17th of this month, and will be the first appointment from a general trading company.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kobayashi said, "We have to face a situation where a weak yen and rising prices have a big impact on the Japanese economy while coexisting with the new coronavirus. I want to be useful for other purposes," he said.
