Jokowi urges citizens to reunite following Constitutional Court decision

Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the President-elect, asked for all Indonesians to reunite and develop the country together following the Constitutional Court (MK) decision on the presidential election dispute.

Nine judges of the Constitutional Court on Thursday, at around 9 p.m. local time, finished the final ruling session. The judges completely rejected the presidential candidate number 02, Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno’s petition on the result of the presidential election. Judge Anwar Usman, the Chief Justice of MK, delivered the conclusion.

In responding to the conclusion, on Thursday evening, Jokowi gave a speech at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, before heading to Japan for the G20 Summit in Osaka. He said that now is only Indonesia unity, (presidential candidate) number 01 or number 02 was over.

Jokowi added that citizens have to admit the elected president and vice president because they are the president and vice president for all of Indonesian. Although during the presidential election everyone had different political choices, Mr. Jokowi hoped that all Indonesians can respect each other again.

On May 23, the team of Prabowo-Sandi pair had filed a petition with the Constitutional Court after the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin pair won the presidential election on May 21, 2019.

According to the opposition’s team, there were electoral frauds during the presidential election 2019 which they said as structured, systematic, and massive deceptions. However, all of the allegations were unproven and unacceptable, according to the nine judges of the court.
