Jokowi ratifies omnibus law, KSPI proposes judicial review

Just one day after its ratification, the workers and employees still could not accept it. The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) already filed their petition for judicial review to the Constitutional Court on Tuesday. The president of KSPI, Said Iqbal confirmed the news. Said stated that for today, KSPI only filed the judicial review without any demonstration. Yet, Said said that the next demonstrations will be held on 9 November at the MPR/DPR building and 10 November at the office of the Labor Ministry.

Previously, Said revealed on a press release that besides the petition of judicial review, KSPI would also proceed its protest and strike. They are still demanding the People's Representative Council (DPR) to perform a legislative review on the Job Creation Law.

PAGE NUMBER MATTERS

On Monday afternoon, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed the Omnibus Law on Job Creation no. 11 of 2020. The text can already be downloaded on the official site of the Ministry of the State Secretariat. As expected since its formulation and discussion, the job creation law received rejection and resentment from many elements of the society.

After being signed, the Job Creation Law also raises controversies, such as the difference in the page number. Previously, the draft of the Job Creation Law was ratified in the plenary session of the People's Representative Council (DPR) on 5 October. However, since then, the page number kept changing. From 905, the page grew to 1,035 pages before being cut to 812.

The 812-page draft was then submitted to the State Secretariat before going to Jokowi. Having been signed by Jokowi, the Job Creation Law's page number rocketed to 1,187.
