Jokowi passes the Rp21 million benefit for TVRI employees

On New Year’s Eve, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a regulation regarding benefits for the employees of the state-owned broadcasting news agency, TVRI. The Presidential Regulation (Perpres) no. 89 of 2019 regulates that employees of TVRI may get their monthly benefits following their performance.

The Perpres was signed by Jokowi on 30 December 2019 and passed by Indonesia’s Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna H. Laoly, on 31 December 2019. The Perpres was issued before the seizure of TVRI’s Supervisory Board office by TVRI’s employees on Thursday night.

Written in the Perpres, previously, the benefit for TVRI’s employees for Position 1 – 5 was Rp1,563,000 – Rp1,904,000 per month. Then, it was raised to Rp2,095,000 – Rp2,915,000 per month for Position 6 – 9.

For Position 10 – 15, the benefit remains Rp3,352,000 – Rp10,315,000 per month. Position 16 gets Rp14,131,000 for monthly benefit, and Position 17 gets Rp21,974,000.

However, the Perpres noted that the benefit will not be given to Civil Servant (PNS) or to TVRI’s employees suspended temporarily or dismissed permanently. The officers of the Public Service Agency (BLU) whose remuneration is regulated in Government Regulation (PP) no. 23 of 2005 regarding the Financial Management of BLU will not get the benefit.
