Jokowi inaugurated for his second term as President of Indonesia

Winning the 2019 presidential election, Joko Widodo, generally known as Jokowi, was inaugurated on Sunday, together with his vice president, Ma’ruf Amin. The inauguration ceremony will be held at People’s Consultative Assembly, Senayan, Jakarta.

Initially, the inauguration was intended to be held in the morning. However, due to Christian’s Sunday Service, the inauguration was moved to the afternoon. For security, about 31,000 joint personnel from the Police Force (Polri) and Indonesian Military (TNI) guarded the inauguration day.

The plenary session began at 2.30 pm. However, the session started at 1.00 pm by the arrival of the members of the People’s Consultative Assembly with the leaders.

The dignitaries also attended the inauguration ceremony such as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah, Vice President of China, Wang Qishan, and many more.

The inauguration started at 2.30 pm by singing Indonesia’s national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, and the new Assembly Speaker, Bambang Soesatyo, will read the result of the 2019 presidential election from the General Election Commission (KPU) declaring Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin as the official winner of the election.

At 2.56 pm, Jokowi and Ma’ruf Amin read their oaths as the President and Vice President of Indonesia while two religious figures held a holy book, in their case, the holy Quran, over the President’s and Vice President’s head. The oath read under the religious book is a symbol that they are pledging the vow in the presence of the Almighty.

At 3.12 pm, Jokowi gave a speech for 18 minutes. The inauguration ceremony ended at 3.48 pm.

POST INAUGURATION: WHAT’S NEXT?

Initially, Jokowi’s supporters planned a cultural parade to celebrate the inauguration. However, it was canceled. The reason was that the President does not want any excessive event and he wants to work immediately. They chose to wait in front of the State Palace instead to welcome the former Governor of Solo.

It was hinted in Jokowi’s official Instagram account that the new cabinet members will be revealed. After several “spoilers” about names that will fill the ministerial seats, Jokowi, posting a picture of a hanging phone handle, wrote in the caption that the cabinet will be revealed on the same day or after the day of inauguration.

Jokowi’s rival for the 2019 election, Prabowo Subianto, said that he is attending the inauguration ceremony. The President also opened the doors for the opposition to fill the Cabinet, a move that hailed mixed feelings from both Jokowi’s supporters and oppositions.
