Joko Widodo to Announce His Next Cabinet

JAKARTA - After the successful re-election in the 2019 Presidential Election last April, Indonesian people, political experts, and many figures are anticipating the next cabinet appointed by the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, generally known as Jokowi, to assist him in leading Indonesia to better directions.

At Karya Kreatif Indonesia, a small-medium enterprises (SMEs) craft exhibition fostered by Bank Indonesia at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Friday (12/7), Jokowi stated that he has made the “blueprint” for the second edition of Working Cabinet (Kabinet Kerja). However, for further information about the new cabinet, the former Governor of Solo did not intend to reveal it to the mass media just yet. Only a sneak peek into the cabinet, Jokowi stated that it would consist of either 60% from the majority party and 40% from the professionals or 50:50.

There are already 3 main parties reportedly approaching Jokowi in order to grab the ministry seats: PKB, NasDem, and PPP. The Chief of Presidency Staff, Moeldoko, said that currently, Jokowi is holding an internal consolidation with the supporting parties.

In addition, Jokowi added that he expected youth ministers on the list. Looking at the condition nowadays, he said that the young professionals are many. Should he not get one, Jokowi will pick professionals considered young to fill the seats.

On the other hand, many people are curious about who will stay on the list and who will leave. Until now, many are speculating that there will be 3 key ministers excluded from the list: Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs (Darmin Nasution), Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (Ignasius Jonan), and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (Rini Soemarno).

Considering the speculation, Jokowi stated that he is trying his best to keep the majority of his present cabinet ministers to assist him. However, about who will stay on duty, Jokowi did not want to say much. One thing he asserted that there are many ministers staying on.

Recently, Jokowi “scolded” his ministers for matters such as export-import, the licensing delay, and corruption cases that recently befell some of his ministers. Based on experience, these scolded ministers are most likely excluded from the next cabinet.

However, the bad news is waiting for Minister of Youth and Sports (Imam Nahrawi), Minister of Religious Affairs (Lukman Hakim Saifuddin), and Minister of Trade (Enggartiasto Lukita) who are currently entangled in corruption cases. Certainly, they are most likely leaving the cabinet; hence, there are 6 minister seats currently vacant in total.
