Jetstar Japan to Cancel 70 Flights in June Due to Pilot Shortage

TOKYO – Jetstar Japan, a low-cost carrier, is planning to cancel 70 domestic and international flights in June. The management will do this due to shortage of pilots. The airline predicts that 7,500 customers will be affected by the cancellation of 70 flights.

On Tuesday, Jetstar Japan stated that they are short on pilots because some of them had to take extended leave from work due to illness. However, that is not the only reason. Recently, the airline had training schedule. The training schedule made multiple flights become delay to secure enough pilots to operate schedule flights.

The officials of Jetstar Japan said on Monday that slip-up in shift management also one of the reasons why they are short on pilot. Moreover, last month, there was a Golden Week in Japan after the ascend of Emperor Naruhito as well as the golden era, For this year, the Golden Week is extended to a 10-days holiday. People were visiting their hometown or go on holiday during the Golden Week. Due to this, pilots were not be able to rest back in May. Therefore, pilots are taking day off this month, to make up for missing holidays.

JetStar Japan is expecting the schedule will be back to normal in July.
