Japanese destroyer involved in possible collision

Japanese Defense officials say a destroyer ship has been involved in an incident off the country's southwestern coast. The Maritime Self-Defense Force vessel may have hit rocks underwater and is unable to navigate.

It happened near an island in Yamaguchi Prefecture just after noon on Tuesday. The Japan Coast Guard says the ship's crew reported a large tremor while sailing. The destroyer named Inazuma is at anchor at the site.

Footage taken by an NHK helicopter shows what appears to be oil floating behind the ship with crew members placing sheets on the water to absorb it.

The Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Coast Guard have sent ships to the site to investigate.

Officials say no one was injured in the incident.
