Japan to provide mobile mosque for Islamic visitors during Olympics 2020

Enough discussing the radiation and coronavirus threats on the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo. It is time to discuss wholesome things.

Since the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics is in the corner, thousands of Muslim athletes, officials, and supporters in Tokyo from both domestic and foreign might find it difficult for them to find a mosque to pray, except at hotels and public areas. Indeed, there will be prayer rooms, under construction, in the athlete’s village. However, some venues may not have a designated space.

Therefore, the answers for them might be found on the streets of Tokyo on the back of the truck. A mobile mosque, fully-equipped with 48 square meter prayer room on the back of a parked truck, will be introduced to solve the problem. The back will widen in seconds with Arabic signage and outdoor water taps for pre-prayer cleansing (wudhu).

To ease the Muslim group in the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, Yasu Project, the organization behind the enterprise, will pitch its mobile mosque outside the venues from 24 July – 9 August.

The CEO of Yasu Project, Yasuharu Inoue, said that with prayer, athletes may compete with their utmost motivation; and, the supporter will cheer with all of them as well. Moreover, Inoue also said that the mobile mosque aims to promote non-discrimination, peace, and diversity in the Summer Olympics; hence, the motivations behind the mobile mosque.

For the goal, Inoue had spoken to several Olympic committees, including from Indonesia the most recent.
