Japan's Traffic Lights to Have 5G Connection

Following the steps of U.S. and Korea, Japan is planning to add 5G network on traffic lights. While Korea and U.S. have installed on theirs since earlier this year, the installation project will begin on the next spring in Japan.

Although the installation will begin next spring, the technology has started to be developed since this year. However, they are focusing on the base stations only. The government released a statement on Friday saying they are planning to finish installation on traffic lights by 2025. The installation will not only in the city areas, but also in the rural areas. However, the officials stated that there will be some difficulties because it requires far more antenna installations than current networks.

According to the government, one of the benefits of installing 5G network on traffic light is to reduce costs for telecommunications service provider. The other benefit is to detect the traffic condition. If there is an accident, the traffic light will be able to recognize it right away. This new technology will help self-driving vehicles to navigate the roads.

Other than installing 5G network on traffic lights, the government will be focusing on the credential information. It is reported before banks have illegally sold companies data on the shopping as well as people’s medical histories. People need to feel safe but most of them are scared about the misuse of their personal data.
