Japan reportedly will deploy 1.000 long-range missiles to China
Japan is considering to deploy 1.000 long-range cruise
missiles to increase its capability to ward off potential attack from China,
quoted by CNN Indonesia.
It was reported by Japanese newspaper, Yomiuri, on Sunday August
21.
The missiles reportedly will be modified from existing
weaponry to expand their range, from 100 kilometers to 1.000 kilometers.
These weapons will be launched by ships and aircraft owned
by Japan.
The plan is that the weapon will be placed around the
southern part of Nansei Island. The missiles will later be able to reach the
coastal areas of North Korea and China.
However, as reported by Reuters, representatives from the
Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affir have yet to comment on the news.
Japan has indeed increased military capabilities and adopted
a more assertive strategy in recent years. However, the country still refrains from
deploying long-range missiles.
Recently, tensions between countries in the region have
escalated after the visit of the Chairman of the United Sates House of Representatives,
Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
As a result, China launched missiles near Taiwan and Japan’s
exclusive economic zone.
