Japan producer prices rise in March, but pace of increase slows
The prices of goods traded among companies in Japan rose
last month compared to a year earlier. Prices continue to rise to higher
levels, but the pace of the increases has eased.
The Bank of Japan released preliminary figures for the March
Producer Price Index on Wednesday. The index marked 119.4 compared to the base
of 100 in 2020. It rose 7.2 percent from the same period last year.
The slower growth is attributed to a
drop in crude oil and other energy prices. The government's economic measures
also appear to have helped push down power and gas rates.
