Japan PM Kishida arrives in New York for UN address
In his address scheduled for Tuesday, Kishida is expected to tell delegates that the world is facing complex issues, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine, climate change, and infectious diseases. He will call on the international community to overcome divisions and confrontation to address these issues, and stress the need for reforming the UN Security Council and the rest of the world body. At a high-level Security Council meeting on the situation in Ukraine, he plans to reiterate Japan's stance that it will not tolerate unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force. He will also call for maintaining and strengthening the rules-based international order. The Japanese government is considering arranging a one-on-one meeting between Kishida and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Kishida will speak before US business people to explain Tokyo's efforts to attract foreign investment.
