Japan-Korea leaders to confirm telephone talks abduction issue and corona countermeasure cooperation
Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had a telephone conversation with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Prime Minister's Office on the morning of the 24th. Confirm cooperation on the issue of Japanese abduction by North Korea and measures against the new coronavirus. It is expected that opinions will be exchanged on the issue of former recruitment work that triggered the deterioration of relations between Japan and South Korea. The talks between the leaders of Japan and South Korea will be the first since the meeting between then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mr. Moon in China in December 2019.
According to the South Korean presidential office, Mr. Moon sent a letter to the Japanese side on the 16th to celebrate the inauguration of Prime Minister Suga. The prime minister replied to Mr. Moon, saying, "Japan and South Korea are important neighbors and expect a future-oriented relationship."
Through the election of the LDP president, the prime minister said, "I would like to keep in touch with neighboring countries, including China and South Korea, and promote diplomacy that allows us to always communicate."
Japan-South Korea relations remain a lot of concern. In the proceedings regarding the former recruitment work, the Korean plaintiff seized the assets of the Japanese company, and the procedure for cashing the assets proceeds.
The Japanese government has complained that the decision of the Supreme Court of Korea in October 2018 did not take into account the 1965 Japan-Korea Claims Agreement and violated international law. We are repeatedly asking the South Korean side to show a solution.
