Japan, Greece agree to cooperate under a 'strategic partnership'
The leaders of Japan and Greece have agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a "strategic partnership" covering security and a broad range of other fields.
Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis released a joint statement following their talks in Tokyo on Monday.
They reiterated their condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and reaffirmed their resolve to maintain tough sanctions on Moscow while supporting Kyiv.
Kishida stressed that Japan will not tolerate any threat by Russia to use nuclear weapons, let alone actually use them.
Kishida and Mitsotakis also agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a broad range of fields encompassing politics, economics and security under their strategic partnership.
After the meeting, Kishida told reporters the need to collaborate with countries that share similar principles has never been stronger, as Russia's invasion of Ukraine has shaken the foundations of the international order.
He said Japan will strive to strengthen cooperation with Greece based on the joint statement.
