Japan govt.: N.Korea launched 2 ballistic missiles

The Japanese government says North Korea launched two ballistic missiles on Thursday morning.

Officials say the projectiles were launched around 7 a.m., Japan time and are believed to have fallen in waters outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said, "North Korea's missile launch is a threat to the peace and security of Japan and the region. Japan firmly protests the launch, which is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions."

Suga added that he will consult with the United States, South Korea and other countries.

Thursday's ballistic missile launch by the North is the first in nearly a year and comes just days after the country reportedly fired two short-range cruise missiles.
