According to trade statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, the value of exports from Japan last month was 4,862 billion yen, down 26.2% from the same month of last year, showing a decrease for 19 consecutive months. According to the Foreign Trade Statistics Bulletin for the first half of 2020 released by the Ministry of Finance on the basis of customs clearance, the trade balance, which deducted imports from exports, was a deficit of 2,239.5 billion yen.

The deficit will be four consecutive terms on a semi-annual basis. The spread of the new coronavirus worldwide caused a 15.4% drop in exports centered on automobiles and automobile parts compared to the same period of the previous year.

Exports amounted to 32,036.4 billion yen and imports decreased 11.6% to 34,603,800 million yen. The trade deficit amounted to 2.5 times that of the same period last year. The June trade balance announced at the same time was a deficit of 268.8 billion yen. The deficits are 3 consecutive months. Exports fell 26.2% year-on-year, and automobiles for the United States and semiconductor manufacturing equipment for China were sluggish.
