Japan confirms the second case of coronavirus

On Friday, Japan’s Ministry of Health confirmed the second infection in the country. The virus initially spread from Wuhan, Central China. The second patient was a Chinese man from Wuhan traveling to Japan.

Having arrived in Japan last Sunday, the 40-year-old patient was already hospitalized and in stable condition. Five days before being quarantined; the man was suffering from a fever for five days. Before arriving in Japan, the symptoms were alleviated.

Since entering the hospital on Monday, the man had not left Tokyo. When the man was checked for the second time on Wednesday, he was diagnosed with pneumonia after showing fever and sore throat.

He came with two family members. These two family members and around 20 staff at medical facilities having had physical contact with the man were also monitored. They did not show any symptoms.

The first coronavirus in Japan was reported in early January, also brought by a Chinese man who returned to Japan after visiting Wuhan.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, instructed cabinet members to tighten the border check and protect the Japanese people by providing the necessary information about the coronavirus.

Approaching the Lunar New Year, many Chinese tourists are expected to travel overseas. Until next Thursday, more than seven million Chinese people will most likely to travel overseas, and of course, the destinations include Japan.

World Health Organization (WHO) did not want to state the new, mysterious pneumonia as a global threat since only limited cases were reported outside China. Nonetheless, the members of the emergency committee will examine the situation further.
