Japan confirms COVID-19 cases in further regions

Japan announced more COVID-19 cases infecting people with no direct interaction with China or Wuhan. These new cases were found in Tokyo, Aichi, Hokkaido, and Okinawa since Friday. The cases marked more infection between humans.

The cases in Tokyo and Hokkaido involved people without prior travel records to China. An 80-year-old woman in Kanagawa Prefecture became the first Japanese victim of the COVID-19. The son of the deceased, tested positive for the COVID-19, is a taxi driver.

Two additional people came into contact with the taxi driver and were tested positive for the COVID-19. Both of them were hospitalized in stable condition. One is a boat worker whose boat was used for New Year’s Party attended by the taxi driver; the other is a staffer of taxi union hiring the taxi driver.

The Japanese government will test 100 people, including 80 New Year’s party attendees. From 80, 10 attendees complained about COVID-19-related symptoms such as fever.

Until now, more than 250 Japanese people are found infected by the COVID-19.

In Aichi Prefecture, a man in his 60s was tested positive for the virus after returning from Hawaii, not from China. Meanwhile, a surgeon at a hospital became the first Japanese medical worker to be infected by the COVID-19. Both never had prior travel to China.
