Japan, China agreed to start anew

On the sidelines of the trilateral summit in Chengdu on Wednesday, China and Japan discussed their bilateral relations. Meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, China’s Premier, Li Keqiang, stated China’s wish to start a new era with Japan as both countries are preparing for the state visit of President of China, Xi Jinping, held next Spring.

Marred with territorial dispute, Li said that the Sino – Japanese ties had returned to its “normal track”.

According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abe also agreed with Li’s wish and hoped that the ties between China and Japan would stay evergreen. Moreover, the Japanese PM also hoped to hold more “sustainable” dialogues and exchanges.

After the 50-minute talk between them, Li accompanied Abe to visit the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a World Heritage site located around 50 kilometers northwest of Chengdu.

Before going to Chengdu for the trilateral summit, Abe also met with Xi on Monday, whom he plans to receive as a state guest in the next Spring amid Hong Kong incidents and the outstanding territorial dispute of East and South China Seas. Since sitting in his post in 2013, if the state visit is realized, it will be the first for Xi Jinping.

Chinese ships were seen nearby Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. China claimed the island and named it “Diaoyu Island”.

Meeting with Li, Abe also mentioned that the stability in the East China Sea is a mandatory requirement for the improvement of the Sino – Japanese ties.
