Jakarta to Copy Surabaya's Recycle System

Surabaya is known to be one of the greatest recyle cities. On the other hand, Jakarta has been facing problems with waste. To solve the problem, a representative from Jakarta's Regional Regulation Formation Agency visited Surabaya to learn about the system. The representative, Bestari Barus, revealed that they are doing this to finish a project called intermediate treatment facility (ITF).

It is reported that Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini accompanied Bestari during his visit to Surabaya. During the meet up, Risma explained things related to waste and recycle. Risma stated that Surabaya citizens have been helping the government when it comes to waste, as they recycle their own waste. Because of that, the governor's work to recycle the waste is reduced.

Although it seems like the waste problem in Jakarta and Surabaya is quite different, there are few methods that Jakarta can learn from Surabaya. One of them is create tipping fee for recycle the waste. Surabaya has started to charge fee for people ask them for help in terms of recycling their waste. Risma's success on recycle the trash also popped the question whether Risma interested to participate on the Jakarta governor election in 2022. However, Risma has revealed her thought about the matter.

During the visit, Risma was given the information about the Jakarta's budget for recycle. She was shocked to find out that the budget is Rp3,7 trillion, meanwhile Surabaya only needs Rp30 billion for the same matter. Nonetheless, Bestari stated that the amount of money is reasonable because Jakarta has more citizens than Surabaya.
