Jakarta - Bandung bullet train's fate decided this weekend

Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Housings and Public Works (PUPR) admitted that it is still evaluating the notes from the Construction Safety Committee (K3) regarding the construction of the Jakarta - Bandung bullet train project. Should there be no hindrance, the final verdict would be laid down today.

Moreover, PUPR stated that the decision whether to proceed or to postpone the bullet train project would have been decided after an evaluation meeting on Tuesday yesterday. However, the decision was postponed, awaiting the result of the evaluation. PUPR set the deadline until the upcoming Friday.

PUPR behest temporary halt on the Jakarta – Bandung bullet train project since 2 March 2020 since the PUPR K3 observation declared that the construction management system of the project was unsafe. The halt was effective for two weeks until the upcoming Sunday.

The Ministry will reevaluate and recheck the drainage, hygiene, access, and safety railing which were once included in the notes. PUPR also had given the note to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) as the developer of the projects to improve.

Should the errors remain, the postponement of the project might be extended longer. Regarding the period of the postponement, PUPR did not specify.
