Italian Committed Suicide at Mall in Thailand

PATTAYA - Amid the busy atmosphere at a mall in Pattaya City, an Italian man decided to end his life early by jumping to his death on Thursday (20/6), reported Coconut Bangkok. The suicide marked the third suicide at the same location.

Chief of Pattaya City police force, Kamol Appkarat, retold the story as such. The Italian expatriate named Gianluigi Broccardo (57) who only wore his yellow shorts, plunged from the 6th floor of Central Festival Pattaya Beach mall at 2 p.m. His sudden fall shocked and terrified the surrounding people and visitors.

Due to the fall, Broccardo suffered severe fractures in his limbs, neck, and skull, and died an instant death.

Broccardo’s body was then brought to the Bang Lamung Hospital. The police managed to identify the identity of the 57-year-old man by his passport with the body. While police had informed Italian embassy and Broccardo’s family, they are still investigating the cause of suicide.

There have been 3 suicides including the recent incident at the mall, and all leaped from the 6th floor! Last month, it was a middle aged man who leaped from the 6th floor.

Around 3 years ago, a 71-year-old French expatriate was the one who committed suicide by falling from 6th floor.

Months before the French suicide, there was a foreigner also tried to end his life by falling from the same floor, before he could be persuaded from abandoning the intention. The whole incident was recorded in a video.

While there was a rise in the number of suicide in the area, Appkarat stated that there was no need to put special security around the 6th floor, adding that nobody could stop people from suiciding if that person had already put their mind into it.

Speaking from the past experience, the only thing they could do was to persuade them to live their life, said he in the end.
