Iran Sentences Spy to Death

TEHRAN - As the tension is rising, Iran does not spare any of its statesmen should they be found guilty of espionage. Reported on Saturday (22/6) by Iran’s mainstream news agency, IRNA, Tehran sentenced its former contractor at Iran's Department of Defense, Jalal Haji Zawar, to death due to the allegation of being a spy to US’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Jalal Haji Zawar, once a contractor to the Department, was dismissed from his duty in 2010.

“Jalal Haji Zawar was spying for CIA and US,” reported by IRNA.

According to the statement by Iran's armed force’s judiciary department, Zawar was identified by the Defense Forces as a spy to the CIA. Therefore, he was then executed by Iran’s military prosecutor. Jalal Haji Zawar was then executed at Rajai-Shahr Prison at an unknown time.

The investigation searched Zawar’s house, and the result was some documents and equipment related to his espionage activities had been seized from his residence. Zawar’s wife was also arrested and sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment due to her involvement and support in her deceased husband’s scheme.

A similar case also occurred in 2016, where Iran arrested its member of its negotiating team to reach a nuclear deal, alleged of espionage.

Espionage has caught Iran under fire this recent week. Just Monday (17/6) last week, Iran declared that there has been a large-scale espionage operation running on the grid of their security network, done by the CIA.

Regarding their involvement with Jalal Haji Zawar and Iran’s security breach, the CIA and Washington have not made any comment just yet.
