Interested in Trump's invitation on Twitter, North Korea wants an official invitation

North Korea received an unexpected invitation from Donald Trump on Saturday (29/6) morning. Through his Twitter account, the United States president said that he wanted to meet with Kim Jong Un, North Korean leader, at DMZ to shake his hand and say hello to him. DMZ itself is a demilitarized zone which became the finish line of the Korean War that occurred in 1950-1953. At that time, South Korean forces supported by United Nations and United States fought to stop war with North Korean and Chinese forces.

Regarding Trump's invitation, Choe Son Hui, as deputy Foreign Minister, through the official KCNA news agency, said that the invitation was considered interesting, but they hadn’t received an official request. If invitation to meet from Trump is accepted by Kim, then it will be the third meeting between the leaders of the US and North Korea.

Earlier on Friday (28/6), Stephen Biegun, US special envoy said that United States was ready to hold constructive talks with North Korea. This was done to follow up on the denuclearization agreement reached by the two countries last year. Biegun also said that Washington wanted to make ‘simultaneous, parallel’ progress regarding the deal reached by Trump and Kim at a meeting in Singapore last year. At that time, the two parties agreed to work towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and began building new relations.

Unfortunately the negotiations failed at the second meeting in Vietnam in February. The reason is because the two parties were unable to reach an agreement regarding the US call for denuclearization demands and demand for sanctions imposed on North Korea.
