Indosat is not the that great anymore: Experts

Indonesian telecommunication network provider, Indosat Ooredoo, officially terminated 677 employees, stating that it was done to enhance Indosat’s performance amid the disruption and optimize its service. However, experts have different things to say.

The telecommunication experts said that the mass termination done by Indosat was a side-effect of the shifting in the telecommunication industry players. As a network provider, Indosat is no longer as good as it used to be in 2010.

Moreover, the telecommunication sector now is dominated by foreign apps such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google. Indonesian network providers are losing the competition due to the price they set.

The shifting also disrupts the variation of manual jobs in losing telecommunication companies.

Moreover, the experts revealed that these companies only reaped revenues from their service, while Facebook to Google reaps their revenues from advertisements. Compared to other providers, Indosat suffered the most.

However, the experts said that the mass termination was not the first. In 2010, when XL and Axis merged, they also did the same.

The experts hailed Indosat’s action, however, as it is what saved the telecommunication provider from losing the competition by reducing its expenditure. However, the experts are unsure whether the termination will help Indosat’s performance.

While the world is focusing on the internet of things (IoT), the operators are late once more, beaten by other companies. Hence, they can only support their connectivity alone. The experts, then, asked the Indonesian government to impose taxes on major app developers such as Google and Facebook in the name of justice.
