Indonesians are Buying More Electronic Devices

It seems like Indonesia’s economy is getting better. Bank Indonesia did a survey last month to find out about the current economic condition index. The result is out and it turns out the sales in June 2019 is increasing from the previous month, May 2019. The index in May is 113,5 while the index in June is 114,7. The sales are more likely due to the consumers want to have durable goods such as TV, computer and cellphones. There was a significant increase in this area, from 115,6 (May) to 116,6 (June).

In addition, it is believed that there are more people who are now having jobs, compared to six months ago. Bank Indonesia surveyed 11 cities in Indonesia. The result shows that the biggest cities that have significant increase are Mataram (9,9 points), Manado (7,6 points) and Jakarta (7,5 points).

If we’re talking about electronic devices, the traditional way is to buy it at an electronic store or at a hypermarket. However, these days, a lot of people are buying electronic devices simply using their fingers, through an e-commerce. Almost all e-commerce in Indonesia are selling various things including durable goods such as electronic devices.

It is reported by CNN Indonesia, that the millennials (youth generation; age 20-30s) are buying products through e-commerce. The top four e-commerces for milenials are Lazada, Shopee, Tokopedia and Bukalapak. However, when it comes to electronic devices, most of millennials prefer to shop at OLX. It is also said that each person would likely to spend Rp200,000 for each transaction.
