Indonesian people rejoice as fuel price goes low

Welcoming 2020, Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas enterprise, PT Pertamina (Persero), brought down the prices of its fuel, from Pertamax Turbo to its diesel fuel, Pertamina Dex.

Pertamax Turbo’s price will be brought down by Rp1,300/liter (Rp11,200 to Rp9,900), and Pertamina Dex’s price will be cut by Rp1,500/liter (Rp11,700 to Rp10,200).

Meanwhile, Pertamax will go down by Rp650/liter (Rp9,850 to Rp9,200), Dexlite will go down by Rp700/liter (Rp10,200 to Rp9,500), and Non-Public Service Obligation (NPSO) diesel fuel will be cut by Rp300/liter (Rp9,600 to Rp9,300).

However, Pertalite’s price remains the same at Rp7,650.

Reacting to the news, some riders and drivers are jovial, especially the consumers of Pertamax Turbo. How come? The Pertamax Turbo’s initial price at Rp11,200/liter is going down to Rp9,900. They thank the global oil price for the price cut; they hope the price will go down even further.

With around Rp500,000 per week, one can only 45 liters of Pertamax Turbo. While it is sufficient for the daily ride, for vacation, more juice is required. Therefore, when the price is cut, they are more than thrilled.

The Pertalite users are disappointed because the price remains the same. For them, Pertalite is more eligible for the price cut because it is used by the middle-lower class, not Pertamax used by the middle-upper class.

Meanwhile, an indifferent reaction was shown by a minor population that didn’t care about the fuel price. Some said that they care more for groceries and other miscellaneous stuff.
