Indonesian nationals evacuated to Natuna from Wuhan

Their prayers have been answered. Hundreds of Indonesian nationals from Wuhan, Hubei Province, Central China, had been evacuated in the military aircraft to head to Natuna, Riau Islands.

Previously, the Indonesian government finally agreed to evacuate the Indonesian nationals in Wuhan. Using Batik Air airplane and bringing 42 volunteers to help the evacuation mission on Saturday, approximately 240 adults and three children boarded the plane to Batam.

The batch arrived at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam, Riau Islands, on Sunday at 8.45 a.m. local time.

Indonesian Armed Forces have prepared three military aircraft, two Boeings, and one Hercules-type aircraft to deliver the returnees for quarantine in Natuna. The returnees will be quarantined for two weeks before they can return to their homes.

The transfer from commercial aircraft to military aircraft took about an hour. Fortunately, the transfer did not interrupt any flight schedule at Hang Nadim Airport. The plane from Batik Air that used to evacuate the Indonesian nationals from Wuhan has already been disinfected.

The Indonesian government consented to the evacuation in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in China. Per Saturday, at least 259 deaths related to the coronavirus-related pneumonia were reported. Almost 12,000 people were infected by the virus, exceeding the record previously made by SARS at 8,098.
