Indonesia to boost cooperation with Britain and Australia in the aviation industry

Indonesia hosts an international workshop in Tarakan, North Kalimantan province to discuss on air cargo security and to enhance the regulation of airborne cargo transport together with Britain, Australia and the International Air Transportation Association (IATA).

The meeting, which will be held for five days, will talk over the cargo transport’s threats and risks, in addition, basics and suggested practices related to the cognizance for cargo and security of postal transport against unlawful acts, in reference to Annex 17 regarding Flight Safety and Aviation Security Manuals and Doc 8973.

The government expects that the discussion could assist Indonesia to develop airborne cargo and the postal security system, according to Polana B Pramest, the Transportation Ministry’s Director General of Air Transporation.

The workshop is also expected to increase Indonesia’s partnership with other countries in the aviation sector and the country can keep up to date with the evolution of aviation technology especially in advancing the security system of air cargo, said the General Director in a written statement.

The workshop was opened by Indonesia’s representative, the director of Flight Security Dadun Kohar. Elizabeth Mehmood from the British Embassy and David Scott, the Australian Embassy’s First Secretary for Transport, Risk and International Matters participated in the workshop.

Earlier, IATA mentioned that the aviation market in Indonesia grows rapidly, which predicted to be the fourth largest in the world with nearly 411 million passengers in the next 15 years. According to the association’s data, Indonesia’s position in the global aviation market is currently at tenth.

In order to support the growth potential in the industry, IATA advised the government to improve safety and strengthen regulations to supports the needs of airlines.
