Indonesia’s Port Operator Pelindo I introduces an app to book ship tickets

A ship is one of the best choices for Indonesian when they have to cross from one island to another island. However the matter in buying ship tickets is still a problem for the country’s transportation system, amid the technology revolution where everything should be faster, people still have to buy on the spot or queue to purchase the ferry tickets to cross islands.

Nyebrang Yuk, which in English means “Let’s Cross”, is an application launched by state-owned port Operator Pelindo I to serve customers in booking ship tickets to all over Indonesia. Through this app, it is expected that passengers don’t have to meet face to face or wait in line anymore to purchase inter-island ferry tickets. Everyone can buy tickets anytime and anywhere online.

By providing various options of cashless payment, the app is easy to use since passengers can choose freely their ships and stopping places. With Nyebrang Yuk app, passengers will get real-time and accurate information about every validated sail. A passenger identity card is needed to access the information.

Syahputera Sembiring, the Director of Operations and Commercial Affairs of Pelindo said the digitalization in purchasing system is to deliver faster services, as well as accurate and precise services to the public.

The app is also expected can increase the tourism industry in Indonesia and help cities in the country to develop their smart city concept, said Syahputera on Sunday during the app’s launching ceremony held at Tanjungpinang Regional Building, Riau Islands.

Currently, Nyebrang Yuk app is already available on Google Play Store for Android users, while iPhone users have to wait until mid-August for downloading the app.

Previously in November last year, President of Indonesia Joko Widodo talked over the current development of science, technology, and innovations during his attendance at Indonesia Science Expo in ICE BSD, Tangerang.

As the world totally changes because of these development, the President acknowledged that the government system has been affected by the changing. Jokowi highlighted all government bodies have to work faster and efficiently in order to survive in the global change and not left behind by other countries.
