Indonesia's digital healthcare startup Halodoc receives fresh funds from Bill Gates, Allianz

An Indonesia-based online health care startup, Halodoc on Thursday has announced its new investors who support the startup’s ongoing series B funding round. The World’s billionaire Bill Gates through his foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, invests in the company along with Allianz X and Prudential.

Without revealing the amount, so far the company reportedly has raised to US$100 million.

The fresh funds will be used by Helodoc to expand its services across Indonesia.

Jonathan Sudharta, the CEO of Halodoc said the startup wants to follow the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in delivering best methods health care solutions and increasing life’s quality for people all over the world.

Established in 2016, the purpose of Halodoc app is to help patients connecting with doctors. Through the app, patients can have video calls to consult their illnesses with registered physicians. Halodoc also offers home lab services for patients.

With above 20 thousand registered doctors and 2 million users, the startup serves approximately 7 million patients around Indonesia every month.

The company also has tied partnership with 1,300 pharmacies to distribute medicines through 50 cities in Indonesia.

Previously on March 2019, Halodoc gained US$65 million in its Series B from UOB Venture Management. Other big companies Korea Investment Partner, China-based company WuXi AppTec and Singtel Innov8 from Singapore also joined in the funding round together with Halodoc’s remaining investors which are BliBli, Go-Ventures, Investidea and Openspace Ventures.
