Indonesia fails to dominate Natuna: Source

Indonesian international relations experts said that the arrival of President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), was not effective to rattle China. It was evident by the view of Chinese fish boats guarded by China Coast Guard to North Natuna, even when the Indonesian President was present. The experts said that China knows that Indonesia is “inept” to war.

One of the experts, Dinna Wisnu, said on Monday that Jokowi’s effort to come by himself to Natuna was forewarned. But, China knew that Indonesia is a pacifist by nature. Especially, judging by Jokowi’s “meek and slow” response toward Chinese fish boats in Natuna.

Moreover, Dinna wanted the Indonesian Government to go harder to China, unlike two years ago when China and ASEAN signed a maritime code of conduct in the South China Sea. At that time, Indonesia and ASEAN hoped China to fulfill its promise no later than three years. Dinna pointed out that China does not respect the code of conduct and no goodwill at all.

On the other hand, Dinna said that China’s entrance into Natuna waters was a form of “loyalty test” for ASEAN, especially Indonesia. The archipelagic nation is known to form a close bond with China in terms of infrastructure.

Why a “loyalty test”? Dinna said that China is a “reciprocal country”. By giving its assistance to Indonesia, China also requires something in return. It is similar to the United States (U.S). The difference is, China wants it fast; it wants all the nations to bow down, said Dinna.

While it is true that China and Indonesia are best friends, Dinna said that Indonesia should not let China do whatsoever it wants in Indonesia.

Dinna also blamed the Indonesian government that does not unite for the matters. Some ministers only saw this as a “fishery” problem. Therefore, they did not give their all for the matter.
