Indonesia Collaborated With JETRO to Develop Vocational Training.

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – The government invited the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) to strengthen cooperation to develop small and medium industries (IKM) and build vocational training. This was stated by Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto after meeting with Jetro Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige in Davos, Switzerland. They met at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2019. Airlangga represented the Indonesian Government in the forum.

Airlangga explained that from the meeting, the two parties agreed to strengthen Indonesia's manufacturing structure by increasing exports and expanding export market access. In addition, Airlangga also said that the alignment of IKM in Japan and Indonesia would continue to be encouraged.

"Of course not only in the automotive sector and components, we also want cooperation in the textile industry, electronics, and food and beverages. In fact, it can go to the packaging sector," Airlangga said as quoted by the Ministry of Industry's official website on Sunday (01/27) / 2019).

According to him, the development of IKM can be driven by the development of technology and human resources (HR). Development is considered important because the number of SMIs recorded continues to increase.

Based on data from the Ministry of Industry, the number of IKM in 2014 ranged from 3.52 million units and increased to 4.49 million units in 2017.

According to Airlangga, the development of IKM needs to be directed at increasing the use of technology so that the productivity of IKM is boosted. In addition, the use of technology can facilitate all levels of society in developing their business.

"The progress of digital economic technology has helped facilitate business and business for the community. So, now small entrepreneurs, such as housewives, can sell through online. In this era, SMIs can be encouraged with a 4.0 digital economy," said Minister of Industry.
