India Near to The Worst-Hit Country by Covid-19

In the past 24 hours, India has confirmed 92,605 new covid-19 cases. This number is so worrying, and India is predicted to surpass the United States as the country with highest rate of covid-19 infection. The number of deaths is also high, reaching 1,133 people on one day alone.

Sixty percent of the active cases in India are found in five states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. However, recovery rate in India is the highest in the world. John Hopkins University reported that India’s recovery rate is at about 80%.

The Indian government is facing strident criticism for the unsuccessful ways they are handling the pandemic. On the other hand, India’s economy is severely hit by the covid-19 fallouts. Millions of people have been left without job.

Economic recovery in India, according to some experts, will take a long time and difficult. There have been losses in 21 million jobs according to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). Job losses are found in many sectors including services, manufacturing, and industry, as well as white-collar jobs. Aviation and hospitality sectors are hit hard as well.

To respond to this emergency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will call for a meeting with chief ministers regarding the handling of the covid-19 pandemic. The meeting will likely take place on September 23rd.

Despite the covid-19 situation, several points of interest will reopen from Monday. They are Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. They have been closed for six months due to the pandemic.
