In Major League Baseball, Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Angels has been picked as one of the pitchers of the American League for this year's All-Star Game. He was chosen as both hitter and pitcher for the third straight year.
The names of all the All-Star players were announced on Sunday. Ohtani had already been named the league's designated hitter after being the top vote-getter among fans.
Ohtani said he was honored and would do his best to live up to fans' expectations.
The All-Star Game will be held on July 11 in Seattle, home of the Mariners.
In Sunday's game against the Arizona
Diamondbacks, Ohtani drilled a solo home run to right field in his fourth at
bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was his 31st homer of the season.
