Import Recommendation Of Salt Industry Back To Ministry Of Industry

The Government will return the recommendation of import of industrial salt to the Ministry of Industry. Haris Munandar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, said the government will issue a government regulation (PP) on recommendations for handling industrial salt supply issues.

Thus, the recommendation of import of salt to meet industrial needs will be returned to the Ministry of Industry. Since Law no. 7 of 2016 on Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen, Fishermen and Salt Fishermen issued, the authority transferred to the CTF. Previously, Minister of Industry of Airlangga Hartarto said, the problem of availability of raw materials of salt for hampered industries will be solved through the umbrella of government regulations.

Airlangga did not explain how this legal umbrella bridges the different views between the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries on the need for industrial salt. However, he ensures a legal umbrella of business certainty for the industry to materialize. "Soon there is PP," Airlangga said. Kemenperin ( Ministry of Industry ) reported demand for salt for domestic industry throughout 2018 reached 3.7 million tons or an increase over the previous year amounted to 3.65 million tons. This increase is in line with the increase in the company's production of salt users. Meanwhile, salt imports last year recorded 2.58 million tons, an increase of 16.21% per year from 2.22 million tons.
