Ignore US, Turkey still accepts the S-400 missile system from Russia

Despite being threatened by the United States (US), Turkey finally decided continue to accept Russian S-400 missile system. This missile system was sent from the capital city of Ankara, Russia.

Quoted from Reuters, Turkish Ministry of Defense said that the fourth part of S-400 system had been flown to the Murted military airbase northwest of Ankara. This sealed Turkish agreement with Russia that Washington had tried to prevent for months. While the first part of the 2.2 billion dollar missile was previously delivered by a Russian transport jet on Friday (12/7).

This purchase has sparked concern from the United States. US said that the advanced radar contained in S-400 would potentially be used to target NATO jets. This could threaten and disrupt the NATO military system in Turkey. US also threatened to stop sending its latest F-35 jet if the Russian missiles were deployed. In addition, Turkish companies will also lose contracts to build expensive and complicated F-35 parts.

But the threat did not affect Turkey. Through its broadcasting station, Turkey is broadcasting a large recording of AN-124 Russian cargo plane that unloads equipment at the air base.

Turkey said that the rudal system is one of the requirements for strategic defense, which is used to secure their southern border from Syria and Iraq. They also said that US and Europe did not have a viable alternative solution, so Turkey finally decided to make an agreement with Russia to buy the S-400.
