Hyundai and Toyota Invest in Electric Car in Indonesia

The Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto revealed that many automotive investors are interested to invest in Indonesia. He stated that during the opening of Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) on Thursday, July 18, at ICE BSD. Airlangga also stated that there are two car companies that are ready to invest electric cars in Indonesia. Those two car brands are Toyota and Hyundai.

The minister continued that as of now, the total of the investment is about 50 trillion rupiah for the next 5 years. However, he stated, it is only the beginning of the investment deal. Airlangga said that he is optimist he will be able to persuade the two companies (or even other companies) to invest mo. Thus, he said his goal is to get 100 trillion rupiah in the future.

The vice-president of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla attended the GIIAS opening. During the opening, Jusuf Kalla did a speech as well, just like Airlangga. Jusuf Kalla discussed about electric cars during his speech. He revealed that both factory and citizen need to work together to welcome this brand new car type. The good news is; the government is supporting the idea of having electric cars.

Jusuf Kalla stated that the government is supporting from the regulation matter, while the industry is supporting to produce the component inside Indonesia. The regulation has been discussed with the president as well. They are hoping Indonesia’s talented individuals will be able to create their own electric car.
