Hundreds of Facebook's employees want Zuckerberg to 'keep politicians real'

It turns out that Facebook’s employees are not on the same boat with its CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg. From all of its employees, over 250 employees sent a letter to the CEO begging for him to stop with the “lying political ads”. Approaching the 2020 U.S Presidential Election, Facebook has become a battleground for politicians and candidates.

When speaking at Georgetown University about two weeks ago, Zuckerberg said that Facebook’s neutrality is proven by letting the politicians sugarcoat everything in the political ads. As long as it is “newsworthy”.

Facebook is standing between the devils and the deep blue sea; either reaping profit from the hoaxes and misinformation but hated by many or bearing its mission for democracy and free speech but reaping a small profit.

These employees are not agreed with Zuckerberg. They asserted that it might stain Facebook’s already weak credibility and break its own company’s values.

In the letter sent through an internal forum of Facebook, these employees offered six alternative options for Zuckerberg to improve Facebook’s political loophole. One of which is by providing the spending caps of every politician so that they may stay true to their missions and publish the policy in a comprehensible way. Facebook can also post re-run during the silent period of election to let people consider the candidates before entering the ballot.

If the options are taken, it will certainly bring Facebook in a better direction. Facebook is unwilling to censor the politician’s speech. However, it promises to improve Facebook in any possible way to gain public trust once more.
