Huawei's policy affects us too: Microsoft

Many technological companies regret the way Trump treats Chinese tech companies, especially Huawei. This time, one of the biggest tech giants in the U.S, Microsoft, lifted its voice to boo Trump’s blacklist policy against Huawei, referring to it as “unfair”.

Brad Smith, the President and Chief Legal Officer of Microsoft, stated that by putting Huawei into blacklist, it is going to harm American companies as well. Despite its gargantuan size, even Microsoft is afraid of the sanction. Smith added that Huawei’s policy should be reconsidered according to logic, and law. Even more, Smith compared Huawei’s policy as hotel management, judging Trump’s background as a hotel tycoon.

“Huawei can do business here, but it cannot buy OS or chips? It is like you are opening a hotel for business, but you tell your customers that they cannot enjoy its bed or food. It is putting our business at risk this way,” asserted Brad in an interview by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Previously, Trump’s administration announced that Chinese tech companies should be required license if it wants to do business with American enterprises.

Microsoft was not the only one who lifted its voice against the policy. Google, Intel, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Facebook, and even Google are trying to lobby the U.S government to ease the sanctions. Annually, Huawei has rolled out approximately US$12 for hardware and software components from the U.S.

The sanction broadened to not only Huawei but also some Chinese tech companies such as ZTE, Hytera Communications Corporation, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company, Dahua Technology Company, and many more.

Huawei, on the other hand, stated that they would go independent without Google’s OS, Android. Therefore, the world is transfixed to see how Mate 30 – Huawei’s upcoming smartphone series – runs without Android in its release date on the upcoming 19 September.

While Huawei seems strong in its belief that it will do just fine without Android, nowadays it is hard to imagine a smartphone without Gmail, YouTube, PlayStore, or any Google feature. Expectedly, the shipment of Mate 30 would be cut by as much as 30% due to the absence of Android OS, which is a warning for the U.S companies as well.

“You cannot be the world’s tech leader without bringing your product to the globe. Global technology means the cooperation of two or more governments,” warned Smith.
