How to stay slim with more carbs?

Many diets, such as ketogenic diet or mayo clinic diet, forbid you from consuming carbohydrates. Most people believe that carbs-free diet programs are the most effective way to lose weight. The diets mentioned above allow you to only eat vegetable and healthy sources of protein.

Is it wrong? Not really. However, you need to keep in mind that despite its speedy weight loss, the carbs-free diets have several drawbacks even to early death possibility. Nutritional therapists also pointed out that even though trying to lose weight, one must not get rid of carbs since it is the main source of energy.

Without carbs, the body relies on fat and protein to burn energy. The loss of protein results in slower metabolism leading to inefficient fat burn and health disorders. Therefore, one needs to “tweak” his/her carb diet by following these tips:

1. High fiber carbs for breakfast.
If you cannot miss carbs in your breakfast, you just have to pick the right one. Carbohydrate with high fiber is recommended for your morning meal because it ensures more gradual energy processing, keeps the sugar levels in your blood low, and you stay full longer.

You can combine avocado, potato, oatmeal or steam sweet potato with protein such as egg, yogurt, or milk.

Simple carbs such as rice are not recommended if you are not engaged in physical activities. White rice can cause the sugar level in the blood to rise significantly, leading to diabetes. If you don’t use it in physical activities, it will pile up to fat.

2. No “sweet drink”.
During lunch, you get the privilege to pick any meal you want. However, you still need to be careful. If you consume simple carb such as rice, accompanied by sugary drinks, it will pile up to glycogen in your muscle and liver. If your work involves physical activities, it is understandable. However, if not, the glycogen will turn into fat.

If you love eating rice for lunch, pick side dishes such as vegetables, and just water for the drink.

3. Adjust your carb intake with your body type.
You are what you eat. Therefore, before taking carbs, make sure to know your body type, whether you are an ectomorph or endomorph. For endomorphs, since their body has a slower metabolism, carbs are not recommended to be taken during breakfast and dinner.

But, for ectomorphs, whose body is the opposite of endomorph with faster metabolism and glycogen conversion, carbs are not a problem.

4. No meal post 6 PM
Still related to endomorphs, taking carbs after 6 PM is a big “NO”. Even more, it is not only limited to carbs but also to all kinds of meals since starting at 6 PM, people are often passive. Unless, if they do exercise, taking carbs beforehand is recommended.

Hence, if you are trying to lose weight but cannot live without it, don’t eat those post 6 PM. Therefore, you will get more time to burn more fat overnight.
