How to Safely Drive to Face the Cyclist during PSBB

After the government relaxed the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), a new habit emerged in the community, namely cycling. These activities are now easily found, both individuals and cyclists clustered on the highway.

Cycling is certainly a positive activity, but this needs to be of particular concern to other road users, especially motorbikes and cars.

Driving safety practitioner Jusri Pulubuhu says facing cyclists on our highways is required to increase our vigilance. Do not let the careless driver on the highway lead to a traffic accident involving cyclists.

Jusri's reason, cyclists have a large risk of falling because it is vulnerable to balance. Cyclists also often maneuver without regard to the circumstances around them.

"Bicycles are thin and light, different from motorcycles that have certain weights. So bicycles are certainly vulnerable to balance besides being agile and dynamic, they also often make sudden maneuvers," Jusri said when contacted on Wednesday (6/24).

Jusri said to anticipate things that are not desirable, vehicle users must always maintain a safe distance. We are not advised to go hand in hand with the bicycle.By keeping a distance, Jusri said vehicle users have space to fall if at any time cyclists fall suddenly, or when they make sudden maneuvers.

"By increasing the ability to anticipate, and always prepare space to avoid. This minimizes the chance of accidents with cyclists," said Jusri.

Keep your distance with the bicycle hordes can reduce speed so that we are far behind or overtake it immediately. But make sure we communicate first with the hordes of cyclists by killing the horn or can also 'flash' the lights.

"Don't blot near them, want them to be in front, side or behind. So create a safe space for us motorists. Remember failing to anticipate can be the cause of an accident," Jusri said.
