How the tech shows adapt after the coronavirus outbreak? Hands-free

Amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus from Wuhan, Central China, a major European technology trade fair, the 2020 Mobile World Congress (MWC), got one simple idea to combat the spreading: hands-free.

Organizers of the 2020 MWC are stepping up their measures to battle the coronavirus outbreak by advising attendees to shake no hands. The step might reduce the interaction between the executive of tech companies to meet and greet the customers. Not only handshakes but also the organizers will disinfect and make sure speakers for the MWC will not use the same mic.

Held in Barcelona, Spain from 24 – 27 February, the 2020 MWC is important for mobile industry executives to increase their networks and lobby government officials from around the world.

Previously, one of the major exhibitors in the 2020 MWC, Ericsson, announced that it was pulling out of the 2020 MWC since the event “cannot ensure” the safety and health of its employees and customers. Ericsson itself is a Swedish telecom infrastructure gear’s major supplier.

One of the major South Korean (S. Korean) tech giants, LG, also withdrew from the event.

While it is understandable that the withdrawing companies are putting their employees and customers’ health and safety as a priority, the analysts said that the action might backfire and affect both the companies’ growth and the 2020 MWC’s procession.

The Chinese major tech giant and also the major sponsor for the 2020 MWC, Huawei, said it is sending its European representatives to the fair. Meanwhile, its rotating chairman, Eric Xu, is expected to hold a media briefing by video, unable to make it to Spain due to the two-week self-quarantine period.

One of the largest tech companies in the United States (U.S), Microsoft, remains for the MWC, for now.
