Horse-drawn carriage processions for foreign envoys to resume

Japan's Imperial Household Agency will resume processions of horse-drawn carriages for newly appointed foreign ambassadors, after a three-year suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Officials conducted a rehearsal on Tuesday on a section of the 1.5-kilometer route between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace.

A procession is held when newly appointed envoys present their credentials to the Emperor.

On Wednesday, the ambassadors of Fiji and Pakistan will board carriages to visit the palace.

The agency stopped organizing processions in March 2020 to prevent spectators from gathering along the route.
