Has 16 female employees, an Afghanistan radio station threatened by the Taliban

Afghanistan - A private radio station, Samaa that has been broadcasting political, religious, social and entertainment programs from their offices in Ghazni province since 2013 decided to stop after receiving a series of threats from someone claiming to be a Taliban commander and by the Taliban group.

It is reported by the radio station official that on Monday (7/15/19) the threat was related to the radio station's policy of employing women as presenters. They broadcasted in two main languages in Afghanistan, namely Dari and Pashto, and employed 13 employees, including three female presenters.

Associated Press also stated that Azimi said the threat of the attack was delivered in writing and by telephone to his office in Ghazni Province and both calls were delivered by the local Taliban commander.

It is reported that the Taliban controlled several districts in Ghazni and took control of about half the territory of Afghanistan and have intensified attacks despite the current peace agreement efforts to end the 18 year war.

The United States then invaded Afghanistan in 2001, shortly after the attack on the World Trade Center building on September 9, 2001. They accused the Taliban of accommodating the Al Qaeda group which was then led by Osama bin Laden to plan an attack on the United States.

However, last week, the Taliban group and several figures from Afghanistan and the United States held peace talks in Qatar and they said they promised to guarantee women's rights as long as they are in accordance with Islamic law.
