Grab reveals the possibility for separated service apps

According to its Executive Director, Ongky Kurniawan, the Indonesian branch of Singaporean ride-hailing service, Grab Indonesia, revealed the possibility to separate some services into separate apps.

However, Ongky said that Grab is basically an all-in-one platform, providing various services in one app. However, speaking at the Financial Club, Thursday, Ongky said that there was a possibility for that.

One of these services, GrabWheels, is accessible through a separate app. Launched in May, GrabWheels is one of the services by Grab that rents e-scooter. The target of GrabWheels are people who need easy transportation for the short-distance journey. Therefore, GrabWheels are available in the form of parking spaces nearby the residential, office, and educational institution areas.

It is not consolidated yet into the Grab app. Ongky said that the reason for it was because Grab wanted to monitor the smoothness and maturity of its user experience. If it seems feasible, then Grab would consolidate it into its app.

To use the scooter, GrabWheels scans QR code on the handle of the scooter. The scooter can be returned at any parking spaces allocated for the scooters, and the user is required to scan the QR code at the parking lot.

Reflecting on GrabWheels, there are possibilities for Grab to allocate separate apps for these services. But, once more, Grab still holds the principle of the all-in-one platform; hence, the chance is unlikely.
