Grab Indonesia plans to charge customers who cancel ride orders

Once you place an order make sure to not call it off since Grab Indonesia is planning to fine customers who cancel ride orders starting Monday.

According to a notice posted on Grab’s mobile application, to cut down the number of cancellations, starting from June 17, 2019, passengers who cancel ride orders would be fined, cited by news Agency Antara. Three months ago, the announcement of the regulation had been released by the online-based ride-calling service company.

Charging fine for customers is not something new in Grab. The branch company in Malaysia and Singapore had applied it since March 2019.

On March 25, Grab Malaysia applied imposing fee on customers who cancel or who late arrive at their ride after the time limit given. The charge fees depending on the type of vehicle or service, ranging from RM3 to RM5.

While in Singapore, passengers didn’t have to pay anything if they cancel the orders within 5 minutes. However, if the cancellation made after 5 minutes or 3 minutes on GrabShare, customers would be charged for $4.

As the news came out, no official statement was released yet by Grab Indonesia regarding the cancellation fees. According to Jakarta Globe, the fee could be around Rp 10,000 - Rp 41,000 based on Grab Malaysia and Singapore.

In order to decline cancellations from both drivers and customers, Grab advises passengers to make sure be ready before placing an order and provide the correct pick-up point and destination to drivers. Passengers could write the address’ details on the app’s note. Using GrabChat – the in-app messenger – to communicate with drivers helping them to find the customers. The company also emphasize passengers to use polite language to prevent any misunderstandings.
